Al Mahrousa Yacht

The Beginning

Tarek Shalaby began as a silversmith, in a trade where patience is the first skill you learn and the last one you master. Every strike of the hammer had to be deliberate. Every curve had to be earned.

His turning point came with the Al Mahrousa, a three-dimensional model of Egypt's historic royal yacht, rendered entirely by hand in silver. The piece was presented to the President of Egypt and remains on display at Abdeen Palace.

That commission set the standard the workshop still works to today.

What We Make Today

The workshop has grown, but the method hasn't changed. Each piece begins as raw copper, shaped and finished by hand, then nickel-plated to hold its shine for years rather than months.

We make serving trays and bowls for the table, decorative stands and panels for the home, and mabakher for the rituals that fill a house with scent. Some pieces carry Arabic calligraphy engraved line by line. Others are hammered in the martellé technique, where no two surfaces are ever quite identical.
